Driver Training Courses

Joshua’s Law states that if you are 16 years old, you must complete a driver education course approved by the Department of Driver Services in order to receive a Class D License. Students must complete 30 hours of classroom or online instruction plus 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training. 

We have developed a course schedule to fit the needs of individuals with busy schedules who can only devote time for driver training in the evenings or on the weekends. Defensive Driving Courses

In accordance with  O.C.G.A §40-5-86, licensed Georgia residents may request that DDS reduce the number of points assessed against their Georgia driver’s license up to 7 points once every 5 years. To qualify for point reduction, drivers must successfully complete a certified 6-hour driver improvement (defensive driving) course. 

Open Road Services has courses designed to get the driver back on the road quickly but safely. This course is 6 hours long and concentrates on developing accident avoidance behaviors and safe driving practices. Risk Reduction/DUI Courses

The state of Georgia recently enacted tough new DUI legislation in the form of Georgia Code – Motor Vehicles & Traffic – Title 40, Section 40-6-391. The law states that anyone charged with a DUI must complete a DUI Alcohol or Drug Use Risk Reduction Program approved by the Department of Driver Services. 

For drivers charged with a drug offense or DUI, courses will be offered on a weekend or evening schedule. Instruction consists of 20 hours in the classroom. Open Road Services utilizes Prime for Life (PFL), a research-based curriculum that is interactive and engaging. Court Ordered Programs

For individuals who have been ordered by the court system, a quarterly small group will be offered on an evening schedule. Groups last for 1.5 hours each evening and run for 12 weeks. Participants will receive a workbook and engage in discussions related to the cycle of anger and controlling impulses.


For individuals charged with an alcohol or drug-related offense who need substance abuse education, courses will be offered on a weekend or evening schedule. Instruction consists of 10 hours in the classroom. Open Road Services utilizes Prime for Life (PFL), a research-based curriculum that is interactive and engaging. It provides relevant information regarding drug and alcohol use through a realistic viewpoint of engaging in low-risk behaviors.


A substance abuse evaluation is an assessment conducted by a licensed or certified professional who specializes in chemical / substance abuse and addiction. Individuals seeking a substance abuse evaluation are typically mandated by the court system prior to attending alcohol or drug-related education or treatment. The substance abuse evaluation is not a clinical evaluation and is used to determine the most appropriate level of care needed for each individual.
